Description

Antibiotics have been used extensively for growth promotion in poultry, along with other food production animals, as well as therapeutically to treat infectious diseases. Along with therapeutic use, antibiotics are well-established for their ability to promote growth through improved weight gain and feed efficiency in livestock, including broiler chickens . In poultry, bacitracin methylene di salicylate (BMD) is commonly used for growth promotion.

BMD is a gut action (non- absorbable) antibiotic marketed for growth promotion and necrotic enteritis control or prevention in chickens and turkeys. It is also approved for feeding to laying hens in order to improve egg production and feed efficiency.

BMD is a type of medicated drug for the prevention and control of necrotic enteritis, increased rate of weight gain and improved feed efficiency in poultry. BMD API Soluble Powder is used in the treatment of swine dysentery, broiler chickens for treatment of necrotic enteritis caused by Cl. Perfringens, growing turkeys for blue comb, growing quail for ulcerative enteritis etc. Each pound contains feed grade bacitracin methylene Di salicylate equivalent to 50 grams bacitracin (Master Standard) so as to aid in control of transmissible enteritis in growing turkeys complicated by organisms susceptible to bacitracin methylene Di salicylate.
