CHOLINE CHLORIDE

Choline chloride is an organic compound with the formula [(CH3)3NCH2CH2OH]+Cl. It is a quaternary ammonium salt, consisting of choline cations ([(CH3)3NCH2CH2OH]+) and chloride anions (Cl). It is a bifunctional compound, meaning, it contains both a quaternary ammonium functional group and a hydroxyl functional group. The cation of this salt, choline, occurs in nature in living beings. Choline chloride is a white, water-soluble salt used mainly in animal feed. H

Description

Choline chloride 60% is used as an important feed additive in animal species, especially chickens. Significant volumes of this compound are used in feed for poultry, swine, ruminant, aqua, pet, and horse.

It is also known as vitamin B4 although it is required in a much higher level than vitamins. It helps to maintain cell membrane integrity and normal maturation of bone cartilages, thus preventing perosis. It has a role as an animal growth promotant.

USES

  • It is an important additive in feed especially for chickens where it accelerates growth.
  • It forms a deep eutectic solvent with urea, ethylene glycol, glycerol, and many other compounds.
  • It is also used as a clay control additive in fluids used for hydraulic fracturing.
  • Use in animal feed because livestock have a physiological need for choline, manufacturers add it to their animal feeds in the form of choline chloride. They typically add choline chloride as a 70 percent solution to cereals to enhance the nutrient supply for poultry, pigs and other livestock.
  • Choline and its metabolites induce(s) an emergent role in maintaining the structural integrity and signaling functions of the cell membranes of the animal body.
  • Acts as a growth promoter in animals (chicks), as well as for fishes when supplemented with a requisite and balanced feeding.
  • Presence of Choline in animal diet including fish have been reported to show improved growth of spleen and head kidney
  • Choline is involved in the formation and maintenance of normal cell structure and controls muscle function, respiratory function, heart function and brain memory

Benefits :-

  • Prevents Fatty liver syndrome
  • Prevents bone abnormality or perosis in chicks
  • Improves FCR & Growth (Maintaining Cell Structure And Body Functions)
  • Improves egg production quality
  • Choline Chloride supports the immune system of animals
  • It is also known for its ability to increase fertility, accelerate weight gain and improve the quality of litter eggs

Deficiency of Choline Chloride leads to muscle damage, liver damage, fatty liver, and elevated liver enzymes in blood and tissues in animals & fish. Deficiency of choline showed growth retardation, poor survival rate, poor feed efficiency, and elevated liver lipid concentration in yellow perch and juvenile cobia and poor digestion and less absorption capacities in fishes.
